– Food Platform
The Food Platform is a project that has been initiated by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and entered in the Strategy for Responsible Development until 2020 (with a potential to be extended to 2030). This means the project is significant for the development of Poland.
The project is being carried out by the National Support Centre for Agriculture in consortium with the Institute of Agricultural and Food Biotechnology and the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute. A partner and the main contractor and operator of the Food Platform is the consortium of Giełda Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie S.A. (Warsaw Stock Exchange) with Izba Rozliczeniowa Giełd Towarowych S.A. (Commodity Clearing House) and Towarowa Giełda Energii S.A. (Polish Power Exchange).
The Project is funded by the National Research and Development Centre as part of the “Poland’s Social and Economic Development in the Conditions of Globalising Markets” GOSPOSTRATEG scheme under the agreement No. GOSPOSTRATEG 1/285521/2/NCBR/2018.
The project consists of two phases: research and preparation to apply the research results in practice.
In the conditions of progressing liberalisation of the EU agricultural policy, maintaining the stability of agricultural income requires that the entities acting within the agricultural and food sector be provided with tools that will allow them to concentrate supply, gain an advantage in trade relations, and thus stabilise their own income.
The Food Platform will operate on the Polish Power Exchange (Towarowa Giełda Energii, TGE) as the separate Agricultural and Food Commodities Market (Rynek Towarów Rolno-Spożywczych, RTRS), constituting a segment of the TGE Exchange Commodity Market, and will be intended for trading in selected agricultural and food products meeting high, uniform, and reproducible quality requirements specified by the Exchange and deposited in professional warehouses with the right potential and authorisation from the Exchange. The Platform is exactly that – a pioneering solution in the Polish market.
